Patricia Alessandrini bei der "Frühlings"-Festival-Akademie

Mysteriously whispering sounds, breathed harmonics of the string quartet, darkly echoing bass tones of the prepared piano: a mystical aura unfolded the premiere at the Festival Academy in the Alte Aula. Patricia Alessandrini uses these materials throughout her Piano Quintet, an assumedly static work in which the Italian composer unfolded a magical variety of sounds and subtle sensations.

These softly tremulous and wispy tones were sublimely animated, nature-like sounds that sounded as if they had been blown by the wind. Alessandrini, who studied with Ivan Fedele and Tristan Murail, also favors the inclusion of live electronics. These possibilities were used here quite discreetly. Alessandrini has mastered the art of opening up a rich world of sound from sparse material. The Paris-based composer. . .who has already been honored with many prizes and awards and whose new work received a very concentrated performance by academy fellows, is a discovery.
